I tried making my own bootable flash drive with the Windows Recovery Media Tool from the Microsoft site, but when I boot the pc from that, it says "windows ran into a problem and needs to restart" and continues to loop that untill i unplug the flash drive. If this seems complicated, you can find many instruction video's on YouTube. If it's a from a Disc, then it will be the PC's DVD drive. You'll also need to change drive the PC will look at first when you turn on the PC. I've tried several times and it does the same thing. You need to make the Windows Disk or bootable USB drive, BEFORE you replace the hard drive. The most effective way is to upgrade the laptop hard drive no matter it is HDD or SSD, to a larger SSD that fits your laptop. The process will cause CTO panic because the image might not be normal now." For some users, they will defragment the hard drive in Windows 10 or uninstall the software to make it work faster.
"Details" says "There might be unexpected reboot during (Windows Setup).
"Retry" just reboots and comes to the same popup again. So I ordered the product specific recovery media from the HP support page to get Windows 10 and all the drivers back on the new drive. I ran the test during post and it passed. When you plug the new one in, your computer will boot right up from it without skipping a beat, and without you having to reinstall Windows from scratch. I got an identicle replacement and installed it. Cloning a hard drive means that you take your old, existing drive and create an exact, bit-for-bit copy to a new one. I'm trying to help someone get their notebook back on track after the hard drive failed.
